A Shared Table at FITUR 2026: Connecting cities through gastronomy & tourism

January 26, 2026

From 20–23 January, The Food Capitals by Délice Network took part in FITUR 2026 in Madrid, one of the world’s leading international tourism trade fairs. The event offered a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas with tourism professionals, explore innovative approaches to gastronomy and sustainability, and strengthen international connections around food-led city development.

Above all, FITUR was a meaningful moment to connect - and reconnect - with several of our member cities, reinforcing the relationships that lie at the heart of The Food Capitals network.

A Strong Collective Presence at the Castelldefels Stand

The Castelldefels stand quickly became a welcoming meeting point for Food Capitals from Europe and Latin America. We were delighted to spend time with Barcelona, Castelldefels, Cali, Cartagena de Indias, and Puebla, creating space for conversations across cities, cultures, and continents.

Special thanks to Castelldefels for hosting us!

Puebla had a particularly strong presence this year, as Mexico was the official Partner Country of FITUR 2026, bringing its rich culinary and cultural traditions to the forefront. We also had the pleasure of meeting our newest member, Cartagena de Indias, and strengthening connections with Cali, a long-standing member and part of our Executive Committee. These encounters created valuable dialogue between cities from the same country, as well as across continents, illustrating the richness of peer-to-peer exchange within the network.

A Shared Table at the Castelldefels Stand

One of the highlights of the week was the chance to experience Castelldefels’ culinary identity up close. Throughout the fair, visitors and Food Capitals members gathered around the stand to watch live cooking demonstrations and taste the Arròs de Castelldefels — the city’s signature dish.

These shared moments around the stove brought the city’s coastal character to life and naturally sparked conversations, curiosity, and connections — a reminder that food is often the best starting point for dialogue.

Castelldefels’ approach was also recognised at FITUR with the VII Premio Estand Sostenible, celebrating the design and sustainability of its stand, inspired by a traditional seaside chiringuito. Additional awards from Saborea España for gastronomic tourism and the renewal of the Q for Tourism Quality for its beaches further highlighted the city’s commitment to quality, sustainability, and place-based tourism.

Looking Ahead

Through its presence at FITUR, The Food Capitals network reaffirmed its international voice and its commitment to gastronomy as a driver of culture, tourism, social connection, and sustainable urban development.

More than a trade fair, FITUR was a reminder of the power of gathering, shared ambition, and the role food plays in shaping vibrant cities. We look forward to continuing these conversations — around tables, markets, kitchens, and coastlines — at the Food Capitals Summit in May 2026.
