The street food court opens its doors May 20th 2026.
Spanning more than 3,000 square metres in Malmö’s former shipyard district of Varvsstaden, Cantin is designed as a large-scale seasonal food and cultural destination that reimagines the industrial waterfront as a vibrant social hub. The project brings together around 10 to 15 unique food concepts, each operating from containers, food trucks, and other mobile units, reinforcing the site’s flexible and ever-evolving character.
Inspired by internationally recognised urban regeneration and street food destinations such as NDSM in Amsterdam, Reffen in Copenhagen, and Boxpark in London, Cantin draws on the idea of transforming former industrial spaces into dynamic meeting places. These references are not only aesthetic but also conceptual, shaping Cantin’s ambition to combine food, culture, and community within a raw, creative environment.
Beyond its culinary offering, Cantin aims to function as a broader social and cultural platform where Malmö’s industrial heritage meets its contemporary creative energy. The waterfront setting plays an important role in this vision, offering a direct connection to the city’s maritime past while supporting a modern lifestyle focused on leisure, diversity, and informal gathering.
Open seven days a week from May to September, Cantin is conceived as a seasonal “urban village” that evolves throughout the summer. Visitors can expect a constantly changing mix of food vendors, pop-up concepts, events, music, and community activities, making each visit slightly different from the last. Rather than a fixed structure, Cantin positions itself as a living space, adaptable, collaborative, and rooted in the idea of shared experiences.
