Malmö

at a glance

Malmö, Sweden’s third largest city, is a culinary rebel. With 187 nationalities and one of Scandinavia’s youngest populations, Malmö moves to a global rhythm. The result is a true global smörgåsbord — layered, diverse and constantly evolving.

Vegan is the new black and sustainability comes naturally. A meal here is likely to satisfy both diner and planet. Street food is taken seriously — few debates are fiercer than where to find the best falafel — yet Malmö also punches well above its weight in fine dining, as recognised by the Nordic Michelin Guide.

Located in Skåne, Sweden’s traditional larder, the city draws on a strong network of small-scale organic producers. Terroir-driven restaurants, artisanal shops and food markets connect local ingredients with global influences. Here, diversity feeds creativity — and creativity feeds the plate.

Matkaravan

Food Caravan

Matkaravan, Food Caravan, has led guided food tours in Malmö and Skåne for over 20 years, strengthening the connection between food, people and culture.

Working closely with Malmö’s food scene, the tours take guests behind the scenes to explore the city’s diverse culinary traditions.

Along the way, participants taste their way through Malmö’s past and present — discovering its vibrant, multicultural food DNA.

Malmö

Food Council

Malmö Food Council works to elevate the city’s vibrant food culture by strengthening a transparent, inclusive and sustainable local food system. By bringing together individuals and organisations across sectors, the council sees food as a key driver of positive change.

Through shared knowledge and collaboration, it promotes a deeper understanding of Malmö’s food landscape and advances food as a strategic tool for social, environmental and cultural development.

In Malmö, food is not just what’s on the plate — it’s a catalyst for collective action and a more sustainable future.

Museum of

Disgusting Food

The Disgusting Food Museum invites visitors to explore the world of food and challenge their notions of what is and isn’t edible. Could changing our ideas of disgust help us embrace the environmentally sustainable foods of the future?

The exhibition features 80 of the world’s most "disgusting" foods. Adventurous visitors can smell and taste some of these notorious delicacies. Do you dare smell the world’s stinkiest cheese? Or taste sweets made with metal-cleansing chemicals?
