2025 Highlights:

Three new cities become Food Capitals

Castelldefels, Hatay, and Pittsburgh joined the network in 2025, bringing genuine diversity and different perspectives on gastronomy. 
 

Overview of the 2025 Annual General Meeting in Lyon and the Study Tour in Lausanne

The Annual General Meeting in Lyon was a major highlight of the year, bringing together not only members of The Food Capitals but also cities involved in the SchoolFood4Change project, of which Lyon and Malmö are project partners. Taking place during Food Week, the event attracted more than 110 delegates from around the world. The event continued across the Swiss border in Lausanne for a Study Tour of the Miam! festival and the Caves Ouvertes Vaudoises (Vaudoises’ Open Cellars).

The launch of our podcast Cities at the Table

To mark World Food Day, we launched our podcast, Cities at the Table, to showcase our members’ expertise and promote the richness and diversity of our cities. The following episodes were released in 2025:

Presentation of the newly elected Executive Committee and HQ team

The Executive Committee of The Food Capitals has been elected for 2025-2028. It comprises the cities of Tucson, Malmö, Cali, Lyon, Montreal, Stavanger and Wrocław (the newest city to join the Executive Committee).

The Food Capitals’ headquarters is composed of the newly appointed Executive Director, Jessica Férey, and Camille Chaumeron-Jourdan, Project Developer and Consultant. 

Establishment of our partnership with IGCAT 

The Food Capitals has partnered with the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism (IGCAT), aiming to strengthen global collaborations between cities and regions that share common values around food, gastronomy tourism, and sustainability. The Food Capitals also supported the IGCAT World Gastronomy Summit Declaration on Food at the Heart of Cultural Policy and Community Well-being at the 2025 World Gastronomy Summit in Catalonia. During the event, we took part in a discussion entitled ‘The Cultural Value of Food: Shaping Future Policies.’
